Park West Dedicates Expand Women and Children's Facility to Founder Janie Geer

On August 1st, 2002 dozens of Park West Health System executive, staff members, patients and neighbors gathered to celebrate another step forward to delivering quality health care in northwest Baltimore. At the festive event Park West dedicated its new wing serving women and children in honor of Janie B. Geer, founder and board chair of Park West. According to Park West President and CEO Dr. Allen Bennett, “Mrs. Geer, through her steadfast leadership, extraordinary vision an forceful commitment, has helped Park West develop from being a health care provider located in a church basement to serving as a federally qualified health center with three locations serving more than 10,000 patients each year. How fitting it is to dedicate our new facilities to better serve women and children to a woman who has made so much of an extraordinary difference in this city.”
The new Park West women and children's wing center is located at the Belvedere site, at 3319 W. Belvedere Avenue. The $2 million dollar facility was completed in July 2002 with generous support from the State of Maryland, City of Baltimore, Mercy Medical center, First Union Bank and other contributors. Delegate Salima Siler Marriot and other members of the 40th Legislative District played key roles in securing state funding for the project.
Women’s and children’s services offered at the new center include complete obstetrical and gynecological care, well-baby and well-child care, immunizations, acute care for illnesses and injuries , and information and referral regarding special needs.
