| Community Health Echo Type 2 Diabetes & Obesity in Children According to the Center for Disease Control, the obesity rate in Type 2 diabetes occurs when the pancreas either fails to produce sufficient amounts of insulin or is unable to utilize the insulin that it does produce. The growing number of obese American children has led to an increase in the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes in older children. This is mainly attributed to the modern lifestyle of inactivity - video games, watching TV - and large portions of food, especially fast food. Some symptoms of type 2 diabetes include: thirst and frequent urination, dry itchy skin, headaches, tingling or burning pains, blurred vision, frequent or recurring infections, and slow healing of cuts and bruises.
